Part of the University of Hull Business School, the Centre for Systems Studies is internationally renowned for excellence in systems thinking and practice. Its mission is to develop systems approaches to address complexity for the benefit of organisations, communities and the natural world’. Its fundamental research in critical systems thinking, cybernetics, information systems and complex systems science, focuses on developing concepts, theories and methodologies to identify and define systemic properties and behaviours, and to explain how and why these arise.

 

The Centre is concerned with understanding, explaining, and engaging with systems and systemic phenomena in complex socio-economic systems at all scales, from the emergence of local community action and business ecosystems through to the impact of global policy intervention. Its systems research has practical relevance across a broad range of areas including health, socioeconomic systems, the environment, organisational transformation, food security, cybersecurity, sustainable tourism, low-carbon economy, and community development.
